My first post- My 15 year old son shows symptoms consistent with KLS. He’s been out of school for nearly 6 months, has had the gamete of tests including sleep studies, eegs, mris, and blood tests. He has been sleeping 13 to 18 hours each day.
We saw a top neurologist in Kaiser who would only give a diagnosis of hypersomnia and wouldn’t acknowledge my son’s altered personality episodes (his impaired concentration, childlike voice, altered mental processing-he was in Alg II Trig Honors but can barely do basic math in his sleepy state).
We have been in touch with UCLA medical, but they say they don’t have any one knowledgeable about KLS. My son’s longest sleepy state was 73 days; then he snapped out of it for one day, back in it for 10, woke for 1, back in it for 6, and Hallelujah, today snapped out of it again. We hope and pray he will stay fully awake now. Thank you for any response. It is great to have others to share with.
Again, my request is for the name of a physician in southern California knowledgeable of or specializing in KLS. We are near diamond bar, ca. and are willing to go to Stanford even if we must. Thank you.
