Just got the formal call from my son’s endocrinologist with the results of his bone age scan.  Ty just spent almost a month in the hospital due to complications from surgery and while we were there we went ahead with some of his appointments that we already had scheduled prior to surgery, including a new bone age scan.  While he was on the hospital we got the “yeah, his bones have aged a lot more since his last scan in December so see the endocrinologist and geneticist when you get out but let’s worry about his tummy and eating etc etc etc” and that was about it.  So the Endo called about his bone age.  He’s aged a couple years since December.  She also told me that she put his info into some program (PubMed???) and it brought up a couple cases of kids with advanced bone age and hypersomnolence.  Interesting.  Without going into too much detail, his 8 year old body is that of a 13/14 year old.  (So are his hormones and attitude)

So, for those of you with kids with KLS, or even adults, have you ever had this checked?  Are your bones on target or are they “advanced?”  Ty has this whole precocious puberty thing going on and it has been since he was 6 so his sleep issues came up early…along with other things.  Ack!

My daughter started to get a precocious development when she was still the size of a toddler and it turned out she is extremely sensitive to the endocrine disrupting properties of plastics. I will be forever grateful that the pediatrician (not the endocrinologist!) who figured that one out (it was years before this became widely known, so for her to figure it out that long ago (16 years ago) is amazing!). But then…. she had constitutional delay with YOUNG bone age.  She does have some hypothalamic dysfunction (nothing on MRI). But it affects mood, sleep, and the endocrine system. She takes hormones and supplements for mitochondrial function and sleep disorders, and takes meds for sleep disorder and to help brighten mood, alertness and cognition in the daytime (Wellbutrin - daytime use only & Provigil)

Better than what she used to be on because she was diagnosed with schizoaffective (on this new regimen she no longer has those symptoms).

Very interesting, Naomi.  We just ran a ton of bloodwork for endocrinology (In fact, we just got back from having the last vials taken) so we’ll get those results in about three weeks.  We did the LH and FSH (I think) this morning.  The ones we did prior all came out within normal range.  Hopefully these last two will give us some results.  Maybe there is a little connection in there somewhere?  Thanks for the response.
