My daughter had her first 3 week-long sleep episode at age 10. It didn’t happen again for a few years. Then again. And again… Then it began being very frequent and lasting shorter 2-4 days but there was always time after she came out of it that she was in a fog. Like, after the 3 week-long episodes it took a week afterward for her to feel herself again. With the shorter episodes, like 3 days, it would take 1 more day to feel OK.

Do other people have that recovery period where their brain just feels slowed or “foggy”?

She also has numerous “sleep days” Where she just has to sleep all day. It looks exactly like the longer KLS episodes. Does anyone else have that?

She is now 21. She used to miss about 60 days of school each year of high school.

She only has 1-2 day episodes now, and they are not as frequent as they were up to a couple years ago.

I am not really “new” but it has been many many years since I’ve been here. Looking forward to “meeting” you. I have more questions, too!

I had my daughter in a Montessori for 7-8th grades, then a non-profit high school for bright kids with special educational needs.  Before that, in public school, yes - she was covered by a 504 plan, but the teachers were really, for the most part, OK. She was way ahead to begin with, so she didn’t need tutoring. The problem was that they expected missed work to be made up. That puts a crazy amount of stress on them - to make up 3 weeks of work, PLUS keep up with all the new assignments. That’s crazy! They should just test them on the material and give them a grade based on that - not make up projects, etc. You maybe should go for an IEP saying that.

In college, she did get some Incompletes and then finished the course in the summer then got the grade.
