There is clearly a lot of research occuring regarding the brain and its networks.  Although this research would seem to be important for the study of KLS, I am wondering if Stanford or other major teaching/research facilities are participating?  If not, why not?  Is research far enough along that it would have any information for persons and families who are managing KLS?

Hi Citydog 100,

I cannot speak for Stanford because I’m not sure what they’re studying, but I do know that Japan has done brain studies on KLS patients. Here is the link to the study: http://www.medworm.com/rss/search.php?qu=hypersomniac+hypersomnia&t=Hypersomnia&f=c&r=Any&o=d If you scroll down about 1/3 of the way you will come across “Working Memory in 8 Kleine-Levin Syndrome Patients: An fMRI Study”! I think it’s great they are doing studies in Japan on Kleine-Levin Syndrome. I participated in a UK documentary in 2008 and got the same brain scans with consistent results as other KLS patients. It’s pretty heartening to know that some brain research is going on about KLS, and I hope there will be more studies in the near future! If you want to know more about what happens to the brain during an episode, let me know because I have results. Thank you for addressing this question, as I think it is a very important question. We need to come together and use the information we have!
