The first annual Coop-A-Thon took place on October 21, 2017, at YB Fitness in Short Hills, N.J. The event came to be after very close family friends felt the need to help Coop & the rest of the KLS sufferers. Feeling helpless, they reached out to a local gym asking if they’d donate their space to hold a cycling event. Not only did YB Fitness donate their amazing space, but their head spin instructor donated his time as well. Local businesses donated food, beverages, giveaways & signage. The generosity of the community and Cooper being well/present helped make the event a huge success.

Months of pounding the pavement, constant phone calls, e-mails & meetings resulted in a day that will never be forgotten. The outpouring of support and love that my family felt on this day was overwhelming in the best of ways.

The Coop-A-Thon raised over $100,000 for the KLSF and spread awareness about KLS to thousands of people. If we can help one person get diagnosed quicker, then we’ve done our job. Knowledge is power & power can make progress. The rest of the job is in the hands of the researchers and doctors who are working tirelessly for all of us.

We will NEVER give up the fight to find a cure. No one should ever have to suffer from KLS. It is beyond cruel & causes so much havoc to all our lives; however, because of all the love and support from family, friends and doctors, we will win this fight.

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and wakeful holiday,
-Jenny, Gary, Coop & Charlie
