The 4th annual Walk for Ryan KLS Fundraiser took place on April 17, 2010 in Lancaster, South Carolina

Donna White led the initiative to honor the memory of her son Ryan, who struggled with KLS and tragically died of unrelated health complications. The fundraiser took place at the local high school in conjunction with a track meet between the four area high schools. The event drew a spirited crowd in support of the community effort. There was a lot of energy in the air as the high school track teams faced off on a hot day, with the only break coming from a ceremonial kick-off to the KLS fundraiser at which point KLS Foundation board member Dani Farber spoke briefly about the Foundation’s mission.

In addition to the races, many activities were taking place simultaneously.  The younger children enjoyed hearing tales at the story-telling booth and bouncing around in the inflatable moon walk, while the adults were able to educate themselves about KLS at the KLS information booth. Meanwhile, everyone enjoyed the BBQ and festive music.

At the conclusion of the fundraiser, Donna White led a symbolic lap around the race track, joined by all four track teams and other members of the community.  This final group lap around the track was to honor her late son Ryan’s memory and exhibit the community’s spirit to fight KLS.  It was a great afternoon, and the KLS Foundation looks forward the 5th Annual Run for Ryan next year.
