Upcoming 2008 KLS Event in South Carolina
Lancaster SC is holding the second annual Walking For Ryan Festival on March 29, 2008.
The event, started by Donna White in memory of her son Ryan who had KLS and died two years ago of an unrelated heart problem, will take place at the Lancaster High Track Field from 10 AM until 1 PM. Lancaster’s mayor Joe Shaw will read a proclamation by Governor Mark Sanford declaring March 29 as KLS Awareness Day. There will be lots of fun and activities including a BBQ luncheon prepared by Dr. Johnny Dukes, an NFL auction, and picture taking with professional athletes.
The Lancaster High School track team will be participating by running a relay where each sprinter will pass a KLS flag to the next as if they were spreading awareness of KLS from one person to another. In memory of Ryan, his sister Gloria will be entertaining children through storytelling at Ryan’s Corner. KLS memorabilia gift items will be given to attendees at our Information table where Dani Farber from the national KLS Foundation will be available to answer questions regarding KLS.
Participating agencies including Springs Memorial Hospital, Department of Social Services, Communities in Schools, and the Children’s Council just to name a few, will have booths displaying their support.
By popular demand, the grand finale will again be a walk around the track, led by Dani Farber and Donna White.
